Laban Syndrome

Date started: 24 March 2025

Date finished: 15 April 2025

The Laban Syndrome is one of the topics that I have wanted to study more ever since I came to MiXchange. I remember that Elrika and I used to read through old message transcriptions to find out more about the Laban Syndrome and talking about how it had impacted us before we made a decision to be ALL–IN for God.

This book has answered so many questions that have been in my heart. I finally found out what Jacob’s Constellation is all about and it’s really so simple. Jacob’s Constellation is about God bringing the parts and elements together in your life for you to walk in the plans and purposes of God. I am so grateful to have a spiritual leader who has the boldness to step out and write a book like this because there is freedom in the truths that are contained in this book.

1) Where have you spotted the Laban Syndrome in your own life?

Before I came to MiXchange, I was definitely ensnared by the Laban Syndrome. People could often recognise the gift that God placed inside of me and jump at opportunities to use it for personal gain. I was young, talented, and full of energy, willing to do anything to become the best musical theatre actress in the world. The world has a way of capatilising on singers with ambition and a no-quit attitude. Needless to say that it never worked out the way I wanted. I always ended up feeling used for what I can do and what I’ve got instead of who I am. Not only did other people allow the Laban Syndrome to operate through them to take advantage of me, I also allowed the Laban Syndrome to operate through me. I was all about fame, getting ahead in my career, and using relationships and people in positions of power to gain personal advantages. I wasn’t against God but I was certainly neutral towards God and the things of God. Because I was caught up so deeply in the world system, I couldn’t help but be influenced by it. But praise God I’m not allowing the Laban Syndrome to operate through me anymore.

2) What key events in your life have you recognized as part of God’s constellation for you?

The most obvious event that comes to mind is how I got planted at Heritage of Faith. Back in March of 2021, my family and I were attending this church and we were having some conflict with the pastor of the church we used to be part of. Pastor John invited my family to a meeting with all the pastors and simply asked questions to get to know us. After that, we had another meeting with Pastor Christi where she explained to us what plantedness is and basically told us that we are planted here in Witbank. After that day, I changed all my plans. I had applied to further my studies abroad but after that meeting I knew that I had to stay in South Africa and move from Potchefstroom to Witbank. I resigned from my job and tried to finish my degree as soon as I possibly could. I wanted to be here in my planted place. In May of 2021, God spoke to me personally about coming to MiXchange through a message that Pastor John brought. Unfortunately, I had to wait a few months before I could actually move to Witbank but I eventually joined MiXchange in January of 2022. Looking back, this entire event of getting planted was so strategic – although it didn’t quite feel like it at the time. I know now that God had a plan and that everything that happened was part of His constellation of my life.
