MiXpedition

Footsteps to Destiny

Highlight of the Trip:

I had many special moments on this trip, but I think my highlight would be talking to Pastor John on the last night at Merry Pebbles. I cornered him a bit and asked if I could speak with him briefly. I had planned to give him my first fruits a couple of days prior to our conversation. I gave him a piece of paper with the amount I had payed into his personal account. I told him that he is my pastor and that I am not going anywhere. I shared what I experienced last year before coming to MiXchange and how it differs from being in such a spiritual environment now. He also imparted some knowledge to me about spiritual understanding and integration of ways. I am so grateful that I had an opportunity to share such a special moment with my spiritual leader. I will cherish that moment forever. I truly love and recognise Pastor John as the spiritual authority in my life. I praise God for placing me in such good care.

Confrontation:

I think we all had similar confrontations on this trip. It goes without saying that 50 people together for 2 weeks in each other’s faces are bound to cause some friction to say the least. Everyone is out of their comfort zone and their normal routine. Every individual in the group of 50 has a different way of doing things. My biggest challenge on this trip was integrating with everyone successfully. Some personalities clashed with mine, which by no means is an excuse. However, as the Word came through Pastor John, I realized that the confrontation is a growth opportunity. Pastor John shifted the focus from seeing each other in their humanity to treating each other as spirit beings. I will freely admit that I didn’t act in love every time I was faced with conflict, but I have made a shift in my heart towards the people around me (especially those who get on my nerves sometimes). I strive to treat others as spirit beings always. Even though I still get it wrong sometimes, I press towards healthy, restored relationships with my brothers and sisters with Christ.

Funny Moments:

I had quite a few laughs on this trip. I laughed even when I wasn’t necessarily present in the car where funny conversations were happening. Like when Lou imitated Quinien in the Ford transit bus using his high-pitched voice. I had some laughs in the bus as well. Meredith was constantly playing the guitar on the back seat and speaking in an old Afrikaans accent like Tolla van der Merwe. I shared many special comedic moments with Matt as well in the car the first couple of days on the trip. I will never forget his translation of ‘Al dra ‘n aap ‘n goue ring, bly hy nogsteeds ‘n lelike ding’ to ‘I don’t know, something about a hippo on the river’. I wouldn’t be able to narrow it down to one funniest moment.
